Take great walks with interesting people throughout Massachusetts
For nearly two decades, one of WalkBoston’s hallmarks has been the guided walking tours we offer throughout the year. The tours cover unique routes and are led by knowledgeable and engaging leaders. Themes range from neighborhood history to geology, with locations from Dorchester to Deer Island. Often interspersed are examples of good – and sometimes bad – walking conditions. Most walks are accessible and free for members [non-members typically pay $10]. For schedule and registration information, see our calendar or download our Spring Walks list. For self-guided walks, see our maps section. |

Your company or organization can commission a walk map. We will develop a route that is of particular interest to you. Over the years, WalkBoston’s maps have drawn the attention of several organizations and institutions, which have commissioned the organization to develop walking maps specifically for them. For example, the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau commissioned the Commonwealth Avenue Mall Sculptures and the Avenue of the Arts walks for the conference of the National Association of Art Educators. Other maps have been created for the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital areas, and the City of Somerville’s Shape Up Somerville program. Contact the WalkBoston office for information on our Commissioned Walks. |

One of the most important vehicles for improving walking conditions throughout Massachusetts is through the efforts of the state legislature and other governmental bodies. Fortunately, the commonwealth has many elected officials who list the needs of pedestrians as one of their priorities.
In 2007, several of these legislators put the rubber to the road, leading WalkBoston-sponsored walks through their legislative districts, giving their constituents a first-hand opportunity voice their concerns and ideas for improving the environment for walking. The 2007 legislative walks were:
- Somerville’s Winter Hill Gang with Representative Denise Provost
- Medford’s Mystic River with Representative Carl Sciortino
- West Roxbury/Millennium Park with Representative Mike Rush
- Spectacle Island with Boston Mayor Tom Menino
- Jamaica Plain with Representative Liz Malia
- Hyde Park with Representative Willie Mae Allen
- Beacon Hill with former State Representative John Sears
- Amelia Earhart Dam and Mystic River with Senator Jarrett Barrios
- Mid-Cambridge with Representative Alice Wolf
- Somerville’s Davis Square with Representative Denise Provost
- Roslindale Village with Representative Jeffrey Sanchez
- Newton Lower Falls with Representative Kay Khan
- North Brookline and the Kennedy’s with Representative Frank Smizik
- Marlborough with Senator Pam Resor
- Newton Upper Falls with Representative Ruth Balser
- Belmont’s Waverley Trail with former State Representative Anne Paulsen
