Sponsored by America Walks and the Alliance for Biking & Walking, this is an interactive discussion with other call participants. It promises to be an exciting exchange of ideas and strategies, as well as an opportunity to learn about national activities and local strategies that support walking advocates.

Call Description America Walks and the Alliance for Biking & Walking will discuss the role their national organizations play in empowering communities to advocate for walking and walkability, and the YMCA of Greater Long Beach will provide the local perspective on developing successful walking initiatives. Topics of discussion will include:
- The Walking Action Network-a program created to assist local communities with developing walking strategies designed to engage partners and local advocates in the walking movement;
- Information about retreats and other resources available from the Alliance for Biking & Walking; and
- Advocacy strategies and resources that can be implemented at the local level.
Scott Bricker is the Executive Director of America Walks. He has over 18 years experience helping communities implement active transportation programs, leading strategic advocacy plans, and managing active transportation organizations. Scott's work history includes 11 years at Oregon's Bicycle Transportation Alliance, holding positions of Executive Director, Political Director, and Education Director. Scott led the launch of Oregon's Safe Routes to School programs and served as the 2nd Safe Routes to School National Conference Director in 2009.
Jeff Miller is the President and CEO of the Alliance for Biking & Walking. Prior to becoming President and CEO of the Alliance for Biking and Walking in 2008, Jeff was the Executive Director of the Bike Coalition of Maine for nearly 12 years, giving him plenty of exposure to the challenges grassroots active transportation advocates tackle. Jeff is on the Board of America Bikes, America Walks and the Adventure Cycling Association.
Melissa Wheeler is the Healthy Communities Manager for the YMCA of Greater Long Beach where she currently oversees the Pioneering Healthy Communities project and the collaboration with Walk Long Beach and City Fabrick for the "walk audit tours" that have a simple agenda of walking around five underserved neighborhoods to assess safety and walkability. Melissa's professional and personal activities focus on holistic healthy living including volunteering at Community Hospital Long Beach Emergency Department Information desk as a way to learn more about the field of health care.
