Transportation Funding & Transit Justice in MA: What's Next & How You Can Help
Thursday, November 29, 2012 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA
The Massachusetts transportation system is facing immense challenges, with insufficient revenue, aging infrastructure, and financial uncertainty. Public transit is particularly affected, with recent fare increases and service cuts on the MBTA and Regional Transit Authorities. These changes are of concern to environmental justice communities because transit-dependent riders need affordable and reliable public transportation.
At the end of the 2011-2013 legislative session, Governor Deval Patrick characterized comprehensive transportation funding as a top priority for next year. Speakers will discuss their perspectives on past and upcoming legislative efforts to address transportation funding and infrastructure concerns and present and future non-profit and grassroots campaigns to achieve transit justice. Speakers will also highlight pro bono opportunities for lawyers to assist non-profit organizations and transportation coalitions supporting transit-dependent communities.
